Three of the 32 new cases in England were passed on in the UK, without the patients having travelled to an affected country.

This has raised fears that community transmission may now be taking hold, with England's chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty warning that a UK epidemic is looking "likely".

With Italy reporting more than 3,000 cases and other parts of Europe and Asia facing sharp rises in infection rates, some countries out of bounds for tourists, it’s time to look elsewhere.

Popular places to go that currently have no infections include Poland, Cyprus and Turkey.

Others that have yet to be affected are South Africa, The Gambia, The Seychelles, Barbados, Malta and Montenegro.

Parts of South East Asia including Laos and Myanmar have reported no cases, as have a number of South American countries including Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Speaking of the cases in the UK, Prof Whitty said: "The NHS will always cope because the NHS is an emergency service which is very good at adapting to what it finds itself with."

However, he added that if the UK sees a very large epidemic, "then it will put very high pressure on the NHS".

Comparison site TravelSupermarket said the average price for a holiday abroad in 2020 is £559.22 - down 4 per cent on 2018 prices.
