Worksop boy’s NHS charity haircut in honour of dad and Captain Tom Moore

A big-hearted Worksop boy has been inspired by his dad and the example set by Captain Tom to raise money for the NHS by shaving off all his hair.

Generous Emrys Jones so enjoys the Clap for Carers event on Thursday nights he plans to shave his head in front of his entire street after this week’s show of appreciation.

Emrys, aged five, has already raised more than £500 on the Go Fund Me website, after originally setting a £50 target.

Proud mum Philippa says Emrys was impressed by the life-saving work carried out by his dad Steve, who is a Lead Theatre Practitioner at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Trust.

“He saw Captain Tom Moore had raised millions of pounds for the NHS by walking around his garden and was inspired,” she said.

“He and his younger sisters made some birthday cards for Captain Tom and Emrys decided he would like to shave his head and get sponsors.”

Emrys, who attends St John's School in Worksop, added: “I want to raise money for the hospital's and help make people better, like my dad does and like Captain Tom.

“I am going to shave my hair off and hope that school doesn't mind when I go back!"

All proceeds will go to NHS Charities Together, which gives £1 million every day to the NHS to improve patient care, fund major capital projects, and pioneer research and medical equipment at our hospitals.
