Parts of Nottinghamshire could be heading into a Tier 3 lockdown

It states talks will be held this afternoon, Thursday, October 22.

Sent by the chief executive of Nottinghamshire County Council Anthony May – who has been involved in discussions with the Government – it also says leaders of the ‘three affected districts’ will be informed.

These districts are understood to be Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.

This would suggest Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Mansfield and Newark and Sherwood would remain in Tier 2.

Further, the email, which was sent yesterday evening, states that despite ‘speculation’ from police and crime commissioner Paddy Tipping that the change will come into effect on Monday, there is no information from the Government that verifies this, and that the timetable will ‘no doubt, be the subject of the first discussions’.

While the letter does say it is expected that talks will begin today, leaders in Notts have been told on several occasions that talks were expected on previous days, and these have not come to fruition.

No announcement on moving to Tier 3 has yet been made by the Government. However, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said during a national press conference on Tuesday that talks on moving Nottinghamshire to the highest alert level were continuing.

MPs in Nottinghamshire are yet to be informed of any changes.

The letter also confirms the talks with the leaders of the council will be ‘first meeting’ with ministers.

This is despite the Prime Minister saying on Tuesday that talks are ‘ongoing with leaders in Nottinghamshire.’

Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council have been approached for comment.
