The leaders of Nottinghamshire County Council were due to meet with the government today to talk about the possibility of some parts of Nottinghamshire moving into a tier 3 lockdown.

Areas including Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe could move to tier 3 from next week with stricter measures in place to curb high infection rates, it has been reported.

Mansfield has also seen an increase in the number of Covid 19 cases as the infection rate increased from 97.0 cases per 100,000 people to 207.7 new cases per 100,000 people in just a week.

Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor Kay Cutts MBE said: “I can confirm that Leaders of Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council have received an invitation from government to commence initial discussions today Thurs Oct 22 about how potential Tier 3 restrictions would impact local communities.

“We will enter any discussions to achieve the best possible outcomes for the health and livelihoods of all residents of Nottinghamshire.

“The best outcome will be achieved with the full cooperation of all leaders in Nottinghamshire who I know will have the best interests of the health and wellbeing of their communities at heart. As soon as we reach any conclusions, we will communicate the implications for the affected communities.”

Tier 3 restrictions would mean a ban on social mixing both indoors and in private gardens as well as the closure of pubs and bars unless they can operate as restaurants.

Jonathan Gribbin, Director of Public Health for Nottinghamshire, said this week: “I can appreciate that people will want some certainty about the types of restrictions that may impact on their lives in the future. My priority is to do all I can every day to help slow the spread of the virus across all our communities.

“We now see transmission rates increasing in people aged over 60. Therefore, it is vital every one of us focuses our effort on what we can all do now to slow the spread to protect the most vulnerable people in our neighbourhoods.”
