Police who arrested a shoplifter after he tried to leave a Worsksop store with several bottles of Jack Daniels stuffed down his trousers said hey ‘wouldn’t recommend it, as from the CCTV it didn’t look easy’.

Officers said the 34-year-old male also ‘made history’ with the incident after becoming the first person to be arrested twice by Operation Reacher Officers since their arrival in Bassetlaw in October.

A spokesperson for the team said: “I am not sure congratulations is the right term, but we're going to give it to you anyway.”

The team say they have so far arrested close to 80 people for offences ranging from shoplifting, burglary, GBH and various drug offences.

This week they were involved in the arrests of one male wanted for burglary, three males for criminal damage and one male for beach of court bail conditions.

The spokesperson added: “We will try and do our bit to make Bassetlaw a safer place."
