Serlby Park celebrates A Level success - SLIDESHOW

The car park was buzzing as this year’s hopefuls waited patiently to find out what the last two years of intense studying had brought them.

But as the first few stepped forward, their anxiety turned to relief.

The 21 students who attended the academy boasted a 96 per cent pass rate (A*-E).

Principal Jo Edwards said: “Some students have chosen to move onto employment. I feel confident that whatever they chose to do the students of Serlby Park will be a credit to whoever they study and work with in the future.”

“Special mention should be made of Laura Hay who achieved three A* grades at A Level, and Nicola Saxton, who will now be going to university to develop her language skills in French and tourism management. Other students in Year 12 and 11 who have been entered for A Level’s have also achieved very well.”

This year saw a rise in grades with just over 30 per cent of sixth form students achieving A*-B in their exams.

Laura, 18, from Colliery Road, Bircotes, was delighted all her hard work paid off.

“I’m a bit shocked. I didn’t expect it but there you go. I’ll be going to York to study chemistry,” she said.

Year 11 pupil Samyakh Tukra achieved an A grade in A Level Maths and is hopeful of going into medicine at university after college.

“I got the chance to do it early so I took the opportunity. I’m very happy with an A,” said the 15-year-old.

Ashby Gibson, 18, from West Street, Harworth, was pleased with her A* in maths and three B’s in business, physics and general studies.

She said: “I didn’t expect an A* in maths. I’m going to Chester to study maths and sports science - something I enjoy with something I’m good at.”

Whereas Jessica Robinson, 18, from Styrrup, is off to do an apprenticeship in hairdressing and has hopes of one day owning her own salon.

“I got three C’s in art, business and English literature and a B in our extended project. I’m very pleased with what I got, it was better than what I was expecting.”

Principal Jo Edwards added: “Our new academy status will enable us to work effectively with even more students to enable them to achieve their full potential and access their chosen career pathways.”

“All this success is a credit to the hard work and dedication of all staff and students involved in the examination journey, not forgetting the care and support which all students receive from their own families.”
