Outwood Academy Valley pays tribute to ‘best year group’ GCSE students

A spokesman said students’ achievements were the ‘fitting finish they deserved to five fabulous years’.

Principal Dave Cavill said the class of 2020 would be remembered for their ‘outstanding performances on the sports field’ and for a series of ‘amazing’ school productions showing a flair for music and drama.

He said: “It has been fantastic to see the efforts of our students rewarded with these thoroughly deserved results and I’m pleased to see so many are returning to the Worksop Post-16 Centre to continue their education.

“However I would like to pay tribute to all students who have made outstanding academic progress since they joined Outwood Academy Valley and engaged in the wide range of exciting opportunities we offer.”

Individual success stories included Nayan Stanley - who achieved nine grade 9s and two grade 8s and Isabella Houghton with eight grade 9s, three grade 8s and a level 2 distinction *.

Aisha Gibril scored seven grade 9s and two grade 8s while Luke Annals managed eight grade 9s and 3 grade 8s.

Luke was also the winner of the prestigious OAV Student Voice 'Student of the Year' award in 2020.

Other high achievers who gained at least five grade 9s among their results were Alice Gill and 2019 Student of the Year Morgan Elshaw.

Dr Philip Smith, executive principal, congratulated principal Dave Cahill for his ‘outstanding leadership’ and ‘all involved’ in this year’s GCSEs.

He said: “The main purpose of education is to provide students with the skills they need to take on any challenge and adapt to the unexpected.

“The staff and students at Outwood Academy Valley have excelled at this and provided our young adults with all they need to be extremely successful throughout their futures."
