Outwood Academy Portland placed one of highest achieving secondary schools in country after another year of successful GCSE results

Outwood Academy Portland have continued with their success again this year after students excelled in their GCSEs to place the school as one of the highest achieving secondary schools in the country.

In these unprecedented times, the number of students who achieved the strong pass (5+) and the standard pass (4+) measures in English and maths was exactly as predicted at 67 per cent and 89 per cent, recognising the hard work and commitment shown by the students.

Amongst the individual high achievers was Matthew Fullelove, who achieved ten grade 9’s including English and maths and a distinction star.

Matthew said: “I am pleased with the results and I will encourage Y10s to revise early and try in their mocks because they might end with their predicted grades, I am going to the Post 16 centre to continue my studies.”

His brother James Fullelove achieved grade 7’s and 8’s.

James McGuinness was another high achiever and came out with nine grade 9’s including English and Maths.

James said: “It is a lot better than what I expected and I thought I was going to get more grade 8’s than this so I am very happy.

“I am going to continue my studies at the Post 16 centre.”

Sarah Day, who achieved seven grade 9’s, said: “I didn’t think I had done that well, no way, not at all, so I am very happy.

“I spent a lot of time going over things I couldn’t do so well and I am pleased that it paid off.”

Other high achievers included Eleanor C, Ellie S, Caitlin F and Scott L, who got five grade 9’s as well as Emily Miller, who achieved six grade 9’s.

Dr Philip Smith, executive principal, said: “Congratulations to the principal for his outstanding leadership, and to all involved in securing this strong set of results at Outwood Academy Portland.

“We are delighted that our students during their five years at Portland developed the skills and qualities necessary to excel in the future in addition to their outstanding GCSE results and we would like to wish them the best of luck in whatever they decide to do next.”

Godsway Dzoboku, Principal said: “We are proud of the results our students have achieved this year and this is a testament to the resilience, dedication and the incredible hard work of our amazing students, their families, our inspirational staff, governors and the trust board.”
