North Anston primary school stages 'colour throw' fundraising event to help children's hospice charity

More than 200 children at Anston Greenlands, on Edinburgh Drive, took turns to dash around a track on the school’s playground while staff covered them from head to toe in coloured powder.

Headteacher Alex Wirth said: “It was a wonderful way to see out what’s been an unusual half term, and it’s safe to say everyone was rainbow coloured by home time.

“Bluebell Wood is a brilliant local charity and taking part in their colour throw was such a fun way to show our support and help raise funds.”

Parent Chellsea Brown said four-year-old son Sonny was thrilled to take part.

She added: “Sonny had a great time helping a charity we’re very fond of. It looked like so much fun

“Sonny has cerebral palsy and I got a little bit emotional watching him join in, laughing and smiling, and having so much fun with his friends.”

The charity launched the virtual colour throw after it was forced to cancel its flagship colour dash event, which normally sees thousands of runners raise vital funds.

Instead, people are being invited to participate in groups at home, school or work.

Beth Cole, event organiser for the hospice, said: “It’s a fantastic way to spread a bit of joy and positivity in these uncertain times, while helping to raise funds for a life-changing local charity.”
