Currently children at the school struggle to get their hands on books to read at home - especially as copies are Covid-quarantined for 72 hours after borrowers return them.

Amy Newbury, who has two children at the school, is aiming to raise £1,000 with a crowdfunding page to pay for the new literature.

If she manages to hit her target, children’s publisher Usbourne Books will provide another £600-worth of titles free of charge.

Usbourne produce books for children from every age - from newborn up to young adults.

Amazingly, mum-of-four Amy told how the campaign had raised over £600 in just under a fortnight - with businesses and parents generously donating.

She said: “We don’t have that many books in the library and many of them are out of date and because of the quarantine children have to wait to read them.

“I want to get good quality books into children's hands to boost their literacy and their likelihood to fall in love with reading.

“Early reading can really improve a child’s life chances - they can really benefit from having a book in their hands.”

Full-time mum Amy, 34, said she was ‘humbled’ by the flood of donations from the local community.

Businesses who have dug deep so far include Fiveways Convenience Store, Cow Shack Ice Cream Parlour, Osberton Nurseries, Markham, Morrisons Worksop, RLS Electrical, The Dog House, Sensations Langold and Wayside Water Gardens.
