Business owners in Bassetlaw are set to receive a share of over £28 million in grants from the Government - put in place to provide support following coronavirus emergency measures.

Shops, hairdressers, cafes and many other businesses in the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors are eligible - with around 2,000 local businesses eligible for grants of £10,000 and 300 businesses qualifying for £25,000.

Hundreds of businesses have already registered their details with Bassetlaw District Council and the first payments are expected to arrive in bank accounts in the first half of April.

Small businesses in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief and with rateable value of £15,000 or less are allowed grant funding of £10,000.

While those who have property with a rateable value between £15,001 and £50,999 are permitted grant funding of £25,000.

The council is asking all qualifying businesses to complete an online form so funds can be distributed as soon as possible.

Councillor Simon Greaves, leader of Bassetlaw District Council, said the grants would be a ‘vital lifeline’ for thousands of businesses in Bassetlaw.

He added: “We have acted as quickly as possible to ensure our business community gets this money in their bank accounts swiftly.

“The strict measures imposed on the nation are extremely important in order to prevent the further spread of coronavirus and I urge everyone to follow the Government’s instructions of ‘stay home, protect the NHS, save lives’.

“The consequences of these instructions are far reaching but I hope that these grants will enable our much-valued businesses in Bassetlaw to make it through this incredibly

challenging time, protect livelihoods and enable them to open their doors once we are able to leave our homes again.”
