The Welbeck estate is supporting British Food Fortnight this month and championing the very best of local food and drink.

The national Love British Food campaign, which runs between September 19 and October 4, each year celebrates the great food produced here in the UK and encourages people to support British farmers and food producers.

Oliver Stubbins, general manager at Welbeck Farm Shop, which is based in the courtyard on the Welbeck estate, said: “We are happy to back British Food Fortnight as we know first-hand how much this country has to offer in terms of quality seasonal produce.

"We’re proud to say that a large amount of our top selling produce is made right here on the Welbeck estate.

"We work with the people who farm the 15,000-acre estate that surrounds us and with the estate’s food and drink producers that are keeping skills and flavours alive.”

Produced within the estate are artisan breads from Welbeck Bakehouse, handcrafted ales from Welbeck Abbey Brewery, and cheese from Stichelton Dairy.

Fresh raw milk from the estate's pedigree dairy herd is delivered daily from the dairy just five minutes from the shop. The meat and game on the butchery counter is traditionally reared on the estate or sourced from local farms.

Oliver added: “This year has been one where many of us have looked more closely at our lifestyle choices and we’ve been thinking more carefully about what we eat.

"We hope that people will continue to support local producers and suppliers."

The campaign is urging people to buy British food as it travels fewer miles and is good for the environment.

Eating British fruits and vegetables in season is good too as it is full of nutrients.

For those wanting to get involved further with British Food Fortnight, a number of food events are taking place at The School of Artisan Food, based in the heart of the Welbeck estate. These include a beer and cheese tasting experience on Saturday, September 26, and a pie making course on Sunday, September 27.
