Worksop’s new £21 million Asda superstore opens – with streetfood kiosks and a Greggs

As well as featuring the Indian cuisine Kulaba Kitchen the new supermarket is one of just a few to have a Panku pan-Asian streetfood kiosk.

Customers can watch chefs prepare dishes such as chicken katsu curry and salmon avocado sushi rolls fresh to order.

Pizza takeaway is also available and the store has a petrol station and click and collect will be running at the 37,500 sq ft Sandy Lane location as of October 26.

The Worksop store is also among the first to have enhanced safety measures including an antimicrobial coating on basket handles, petrol pumps, toilet door locks and freezer door handles that limits the spread of bacteria and viruses.

Parking is available for up to 350 cars and 180 new jobs will be created in the town.

Asda’s latest superstore was officially opened by local youngster Lola Keeling, seven, who cut the ribbon after designing a winning picture that featured on tote bags given to the first 200 customers through the door.

Speaking about the youngster’s appearance dad Jamie said: “She’s so excited - she can’t wait to cut the ribbon, she thinks it’s her store.”

Craig Loveday, Asda Worksop store manager, said: “We’re delighted to officially open our Worksop superstore and to have been selected to launch a number of firsts for Asda.

“We’re pleased to finally be able to introduce long-anticipated offers such as the on-site petrol station, large George clothing and home departments and a brilliant range of food options to Worksop.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to our VIP Lola - who did a brilliant job of cutting the ribbon for us and officially declaring the store open.

“We’re proud to be part of the community and can’t wait to welcome everyone to the store over the coming weeks and months.”

Speaking about the store last month Bassetlaw District Council leader Simon Greaves said: “This has been a site that as an authority we’ve wanted to see brought back into use for many years.

“This is not just about Asda - the jobs and opportunities it will bring after such a long time will be brilliant.”
