Worksop market days back in full force as Bridge Street toilets reopen

Around 19 traders were back on Wednesday - selling goods from fish and fashion to hammers and hairpieces along Bridge Street and Bridge Place.

All traders have been required to produce assessments showing how they are able to operate their stalls in a safe way - including queuing systems, social distancing and contactless payments.

Councillor Jo White, cabinet member for regeneration at Bassetlaw District Council said: “It’s great to see the market standing again and I’m very grateful to our market traders who have worked with us to deliver a market in line with government guidelines.

“We’ll continue to monitor the operation of the market and will plan for the impact of the re-opening of more businesses July 4.

“Our priority has to be the safety of traders, shoppers and visitors to the market and Worksop town centre.”

This week also saw the re-opening of the public toilets on Bridge Street in Worksop after a refurbishment which included the installation of a new changing places facility in the town.

The Bridge Street toilets will have a security guard outside - enforcing Covid-19 safety measures and ensuring the facilities remain clean, hygienic and are not vandalised.

From August 1 20p pay gates will come into operation for the general public while the changing places toilet - complete with height-adjustable changing bench and a hoist - is free to use for those in possession of a radar key or via security.

Coun White said: “We’re delighted that the free changing places toilet is now open - making Worksop more accessible to those who cannot use standard toilets.

“The introduction of a 20p pay gate for the main toilets will help offset the cost of the security guard. It is vital that people have access to a clean, hygienic and safe facility.

“The charge is not something we have done lightly but after three refurbishments in ten years it’s important that the toilets are safe and clean.”
