Every Thursday at 11.30am Guardian reporter Ben McVay appears on air with snippets from the stories which have made the print edition.

Warren Miller, the station’s programme director, told how the collaboration was the best way to be sure of ‘good news coverage across Bassetlaw’.

He said: “When I worked on hospital radio in Worksop the Guardian used to come in and read the news – and it was very popular.

“And over the last few years people have said there’s no news for Bassetlaw - but I wanted to make sure there was coverage for Worksop and Retford.”

Former Trax FM presenter Warren launched TX1 with former Rother Breakfast presenter Stewart Nicholson in September when Trax was bought by German company Bauer and rebranded as Greatest Hits Radio.

After just under three months the station has 20,000 listeners - mostly on smart speakers - out of a population area of 320,000.

However TX1 hope to launch on DAB before the new year - allowing fans to listen in their cars across Bassetlaw, Doncaster and Lincolnshire.

The station mixes classic songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s with contemporary chart songs.

However TX1 pride themselves on breaking away from the tired formula of repeating the same music schedules.

Warren said: “We’ll play a 70s song by Bowie and then a chart song but we also play stuff you wouldn’t have heard for a long while.

“When people listen to the radio these days they don’t say ‘I’ve not heard this song for ages’ - so we try and throw what we call a spice song in the mix.”

Programmes start at 7am with Mike Bargh’s two-hour Barghy at Breakfast then continue throughout the day with Back Tracks and Warren’s Daytime programme from 10am-2pm.

Later comes Gav Roberts’ Big Drive Home, Jim Moore’s Late Show and specialist rock, soul and sport shows from 9pm-11pm.
