Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the new lockdown in an address to the nation on Monday night, and while the measures came into force on Tuesday, they became law from 00.01 this morning.
Under the new rules, which are similar to those during the first national lockdown in March 2020, people must stay at home except for a few reasons such as travelling to work if they cannot work from home, or to attend medical appointments.
Schools have been told to move to online teaching, remaining open only for vulnerable pupils and children of key workers.
Non-essential shops, which had already been closed under the Tier 4 measures imposed on the county in December, must also remain closed.
