Founded by Victor Smirnov-Golovanov in 1988, Moscow City Ballet is one of Russia’s most successful and popular touring ballet companies, highly admired for its distinctive style, exciting choreography and some exceptionally gifted dancers.

The company’s first appearance was in 1989 in Seoul, Korea. Its success outside of Russia makes it one of Russia’s most extensively touring ballet companies.

Having performed all over the world, the company’s greatest success has been in the United Kingdom where it has given more than 800 performances since 1991, accompanied by the National Ballet Orchestra.

Considering classical ballet to be an important part of the national heritage of Russia, Victor Smirnov-Golovanov aims to bring it to as wide a public as possible, especially the new generation of ballet-going youngsters.

Smirnov-Golovanov’s own productions, as well as older versions of the classical ballets, all share a clearly defined style, ideas and choreographic integrity, setting high performance standards.

The Moscow City Ballet company is renowned for the perfection of its corps de ballet in the best traditions of the Russian school of classical ballet.

Swan Lake, with its instantly recognisable music of Tchaikovsky a signature of classical ballet, and the wonderfully dark story of good set against evil, is one of the most famous and loved of all shows.

It is impossible to imagine the ballet world without it.

Meanwhile the Nutcracker is set to another rousing score from Tchaikovsky’s, has sumptuous sets and costumes adding to its sense of pure make believe.

Swan Lake will be performed at the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd March at 7.30pm with The Nutcracker on Saturday 24th March at 7.30pm.
