Whitwell Player in Scrooge performance

Taken from the Dickens’ classics A Christmas Carol, renowned composer and lyricist Leslie Bruicusse, pens a heart-warming musical which will entertain all the family and get you into the Christmas spirit.

It is 1860 and the cranky Ebenezer Scrooge, played by Peter Lack - who is a newcomer to the Whitwell stage and is their new musical director - is taken on a life changing journey that he will never forget.

Scrooge loathes people, family and especially Christmas, and is generally stingy in running his bank, exploiting clients and his poor employee Bob Cratchit, played by Luke Fletcher.

Every year he is asked by his nephew (Toby Bagnall) to Christmas dinner, and every year he nastily declines.

On the eve of Christmas, after dismissing all festivities as humbug, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his late partner, Jacob Marley (Gary Williams).

Marley insists that he sees the error of his ways.

He explains that failure to do so will result in Ebenezer being doomed to wander the earth, wearing chains forged in life by being a miser.

He for-tells of three spirits that will visit Scrooge that night and take him back to his past, show him the present and take him into the future, in the hopes he will change his miserly ways and embrace Christmas, like he once had.

The show is performed year after year at the London Palladium with Tommy Steel in the lead.

But now you do not have to travel that far to see this timeless classic this Christmas.

Whitwell Community Centre is the venue for this seasonal treat and in the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth, - what a better time to see it and quieten those cries of Bah Humbug!

Whitwell Players promises to have young and old alike foot-tapping and singing all the way home to songs such as Father Christmas, December the Twenty Fifth, Thank You Very Much and A Christmas Carol.

The show runs every evening from Wednesday 28th November to Saturday 1st December - Saturday night has sold out. All performances are at 7.30pm.

There is also a matinee performance on Saturday at 2pm.
