Whitwell Festival of Music

A VARIETY of bands are set to entertain audiences at this year’s Whitwell Festival of Music.

Whitwell Forward Community Group and 4Ward Promotions have extended the festival with 23 bands set to play on Friday 9th, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September.

The line-up includes the return of top celtic rockers Ferocious Dog, Mark Nichols and Miss 600.

The festival opens 7.30pm Friday evening with John Tansley, Shanks’ Pony, Northern Monkey and Ferocious Dog.

Saturday sees 15 bands on indoor and outdoor stages, Rattlejag Morris Men, Belly Dancers, open mic a Busk Stop, drum workshops, real ale, food and festival stalls.

This year also sees the addition of a chilled out jazz and blues session on Sunday afternoon which features Jazznotes with John Sanderson - sax player with Bryan Ferry, and The Hummingbirds Blues Band.

Last year’s event attracted over 800 and proceeds were donated to local charities and community groups. It’s hoped the event will introduce local youngsters to the excitement of live music, raise awareness of music related industries and inspire them to get involved in playing, listening to and producing their own music along with giving the community a great time.
