Review: Standing ovation at opening night of Joseph at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel

X-citing to watch, x-pensively costumed, x-tensively lit - Bill Kenwright’s touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is x-traordinarily good.

So good in fact that you’ll struggle to see a more dynamic show and explosion of colour this side of fireworks night.

Add in X Factor finalists Lloyd Daniels and Amelia Lily and EastEnders escapee Matt Lapinskas and the show is every bit a dream ticket.

Lloyd gauges the role of Joseph just right, balancing the terror of being held as a captive slave with the confidence of dream-maker and he brings rich vocals to the show’s trademark ballads.

Amelia is the sun, moon and star of the show, her impressive presence as Narrator lightting up the stage with every number she sings.

Matt has the audience eating out of his hand as the Elvis-style Pharaoh, turning out a mighty fine version of King Of My Heart.

A standing ovation from the audience at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel on Tuesday said it all. Go, go, go, see this equivalent of a West End-standard production.
