Classic season aims to thrill

Colin’s company has played 22 consecutive years at the Theatre Royal, bringing a series of murder mysteries to entertain summer theatre crowd.

Theatre director and Colin’s friend and colleague, Adrian Lloyd-James, feels honoured to be taking over the reins.

He said: “I first worked with Colin 28 years ago, and I have been lucky enough to be involved in the Theatre Royal’s Classic Thriller Season for most of those years.”

“Colin was a true original, a great director and a consummate professional. Whilst no-one could ever replace him, I am delighted to have been given the honour of presenting this year’s Thriller Season.”

“We have an incredibly loyal Nottingham audience, and I would like to let them know that I will be keeping the tradition of the Thriller Season very much alive, spine-chilling dramas with the merest touch of playful humour.”

“ That was the genius of Colin’s work and I think the reason why people return to see us year after year.”

“The whole company is looking forward to returning to Nottingham this summer and we will be raising a toast to Colin’s memory on the opening night.”

In keeping with the Classic Thriller Season tradition, and with dastardly deeds most definitely in mind, the plays to be performed this summer will be Sweet Revenge, Death by Fatal Murder, Strangers on a Train and Murderous Liaisons.

The first thriller to whet fans’ appetites will be Francis Durbridge’s Sweet Revenge from Monday 8th to Saturday 13th August.

An affair, a broken heart, a web of enemies and a murder, this classic whodunit will keep audiences guessing to the very end.

Peter Gordon’s hilarious spoof of the Agatha Christie genre, Death by Fatal Murder, follows on from last year’s run away success with Murdered To Death.

The play opens on Monday 15th and runs until Saturday 20th August.

From 22nd to 27th August, Strangers on a Train tells the story of a chance meeting with deadly consequences.

While 30th August to 3rd September will be Murderous Liaisons - diamond heists, deceit, double-crosses and murder plots.
