Hugely popular in the 1990s and 2000s for songs like Girl From Mars, Oh Yeah, Goldfinger, Angel Interceptor, Shining Light and Burn Baby Burn, Ash have already enjoyed a sell-out spring tour and a successful run of festival dates this year.

The Northern Irish band also released the album Kablammo! – their first studio album since 2007’s Twilight of the Innocents – in May.

The band’s new single, Machinery, is taken from the album and is set for release on October 9.

“Machinery is probably the most indie pop tune on the record,” said front man and guitarist Tim Wheeler.

“It’s essentially a song about someone in modern times trying to find a real connection.

“It was one of the final ones we worked on,” added bassist Mark Hamilton.

“It’s just a beautiful melody.”

Kablammo! was released to a fanfare of positive reviews with fans a critics alike believing that it captures the live essence of Ash as a great rock band.

It has been widely lauded as their best work since the chart-topping Free All Angels in 2001.

That was their second number one album after 1977 in 1995.

These days, Ash are back as the original trip they began as with Tim and Mark joined by drummer Rick McMurray.

Fourth member Charlottle Hatherley left the group in 2006.
