California Gurl Katy Perry certainly knows how to put on a show.

From the opening bars of Witness – the title track of her latest album and world tour – she had the thousands of fans in Sheffield Arena in the palm of her hand.

Dressed in a gold suit with dark glasses and clutching a gold microphone, she launched into Roulette as her backing dancers climbed and writhed across a pair of large gold dice.

Costume and prop changes came thick and fast as Katy roared through her greatest hits interspersed with tracks from Witness.

A bubblegum pop section featuring tracks such as Teenage Dream, California Gurls and I Kissed a Girl saw her dancers clad in lurid blue and pink and Katy in a “light-up brassiere” as the packed audience of all ages sang the words back to her.

Katy made full use of the stage and roof height throughout, frequently performing on top of rising stage panels or on the lengthy catwalk into the middle of the arena.

She even “flew” on a planet to a standalone mini-stage in one corner where she invited three young fans on stage to make a wish on a shooting star.

She finished with latest single Swish Swish and “the song you’ve been waiting for”, Roar, before returning, this time on a pendulum clock high above the venue for Pendulum which transported her to a giant hand in the middle of the arena for the anthemic Firework, a perfect end to a stunning show.

With a wave of her hand, she dropped through the hand and out of sight, leaving her fans to go home very happy indeed.
