Retford: Journey back to ancient Siam with The MOB for The King and I
Step back in time to ancient Siam at the Majestic Theatre in Retford next week as youth group The MOB present Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic The King and I.
The cast will feature more than 50 youngsters, all aged between eight and 18 years-old and all from Retford and the surrounding local Bassetlaw area.
Set against an exotic backdrop, The King and I tells the story of Anna, an English governess who tries to help the King of Siam reconcile his country’s ancient customs with the modern world.
The conflict and clash of cultures between east and west is the inspiration at the heart of this classic piece.
Also at its heart is the stunning score with numbers like I Whistle A Happy Tune, Getting to Know You, Something Wonderful, Hello Young Lovers and Shall We Dance?
