The chart-topping songwriter is the first big name to be announced to take part in the now-annual Capital FM-staged Christmas Lights switch-on concert, which will be held in a centre car park on Thursday, November 6.

Thirty-year-old Professor Green, – real name Stephen Manderson – has released three studio albums, an EP and nine singles.

Read All About It, featuring Emeli Sandé, went to number one.

Other hits include I Need You Tonight, with Ed Drewett and Just Be Good To Green, with Lily Allen, and Lullaby, featuring Tori Kelly, while the singer, pictured above, has worked with other music giants including Example and The Streets.

Meadowhall bosses say he will be joined on stage on the night by an array of top artists to be announced in coming weeks by Meadowhall and partner Capital FM.

Last year’s headline act, playing their hits in front of 15,000 music fans, were The Vamps, pictured inset, while in previous years acts including The Wanted, Olly Murs, Eliza Doolittle and Alesha Dixon have performed.

The shopping centre’s spectacular decorations inside the shoping centre included 875,283 LED bulbs, 3,600 crystal icicles, 9,228m of crystal garland and 8kg of glitter.

Alex Caley, Meadowhall events manager, said: “We are delighted to announce Professor Green as our first act at this year’s Light Switch On Charity Concert – such an established artist will certainly pull in the crowds.

“We will be revealing further acts very soon.”

Proceeds from the gig will be shared between Meadowhall’s charity of the year, St Luke’s Hospice in Whirlow, and Capital FM’s new charity Global’s Make Some Noise.

Tickets are just £2.50. Children aged from eight years, up to and including 13 years, must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years and above.
