More than 350 bands from across the UK entered the competition and with the help of the public They Say Fall managed to finish the first voting stage in first place.

The top 100 bands then went before a judging panel, consisting of Don Broco, Kerrang Radio’s Katie P, Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Angie Somerside and the General Manager of Red Bull Records.

From those 100 bands they chose 15 finalists and They Say Fall made the grade.

Singer, Kehn Gembalczyk, said: “On Friday 9th May we headed down to Red Bull Studios in London to record a live track, have professional media training, get press shots taken, meet the guys at Fender and we had a chance to talk to the boys in Don Broco too.”

“The whole day was filmed and the resulting video will be posted on the competition site, where the second round of voting will commence.”

“The top six bands will receive a slot to perform at the mammoth Download Festival at Donington Park in June, and a further two wildcard choices, decided by the judges, will also receive a slot.”

“Then, as if that wasn’t enough, the band that puts on the best performance will win a free week at Red Bull Studios to record a new record, as well as £5,000 to spend on Fender gear.”

Kehn added: “The level of local support we received in the first round blew us away.”

“It was totally surreal, and it goes without saying that we’re so appreciative of the effort everyone in this town has made for us.”
