Kismet back with Playhouse Creatures

The modern classic Playhouse Creatures explores a key moment in theatrical history, when Charles II returned to the throne and decreed that women would - for the first time - be allowed to perform on the English stage.

The King and many others turned out in droves, more interested in glimpsing a shapely ankle than genuine acting talent. But the women themselves - including Nell Gwynn, who was later to become Charles’ mistress - fought to be seen as legitimate actors.

It was these feisty females who paved the way for the great actresses who dominate the theatre today.

Kismet’s previous production, a revival of the award-winning modern nativity Christ Mass, received outstanding reviews.

The company has been called ‘endlessly innovative’ and their latest show is no exception, staged with some unique directorial additions.

Playhouse Creatures will be performed in the stunning surroundings of Gainsborough’s United Reform Church on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th May at 7.30pm.
