Chesterfield’s Inspirations Theatre Company and Directions Theatre Arts have joined forces to stage Bad Girls the Musical this weekend.

Director Dot Clarke said: “It is a show I have wanted to do for some time and although the general public seem to shun shows they have not heard of before, it is a wonderful show based on the TV series with the same characters and some really wonderful songs.”

Seasoned performers such as Nicola Smith, Ffion Thornton, Chloe Worstenholme, Jessica Spanier and Lisa Bailey will tread the boards alongside some of the companies’ younger stars and several newcomers to Inspirations and Directions.

Richard Buxton, last seen in The Full Monty and in Sweeney Todd, plays Fenner,

Dot added: “It is a female dominated show, funny, yet powerful with a riot and ultimate revenge.”

Bad Girls The Musical is set in a fictional jail and is the story of a new wing governor Helen Stewart and her battles with the entrenched old guard of officer Jim Fenner and his sidekick Sylvia Hollamby.

The production features characters from the hit series including Shell Dockley and her runner Denny Blood, the two Julies and the utlimate ‘top dog’, Yvonne Atkins.

Julie Cox choreographs the production and Melanie Gilbert is musical director.

Bad Girls The Musical is suitable for viewers aged 14 years and upwards and will be staged at the Palace Theatre, Mansfield, on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19, at 7.15pm.
