Guitarists’ guitarist to play Ropery Hall

Since last appeared in October 2009 he has become one of the most exciting voices on the new British folk scene.

In recent years he has toured relentlessly as both headliner and support act, opening shows for artists such as Martin Carthy, Jools Holland, Martin Simpson, Gil Scott-Heron and Chris Thile.

He is also a regular on the festival circuit and has played shows at Glastonbury, Green Man, Cambridge and many others and has built up a loyal following.

John’s fourth album, Great Lakes, has recently been released and follows a two year period of writer’s block so crippling that Smith had considered abandoning songwriting altogether.

He says his favourite sound in the world is a steel string guitar being played late at night, but these days there are more and more people listening in to what he’s trying to say.

John will be on the Ropery Hall stage on Sunday, 24th November starting at 8pm.
