Gainsborough: Choral Society to mark start of World War I with special concert at All Saints

This weekend, Gainsborough Choral Society will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the World War I with the concert In Flanders Field at All Saints’ Church in Gainsborough.

The group will be performing the Rutter Requiem (1985) and the Haydn Mass in Time of War composed in 1796.

Both pieces express an anti-war sentiment despite being of a lyrically joyful nature showing hope for the future.

The Lincoln Pro Musica orchestra accompanies the group, together with soloists from the Royal Northern College of Music.

The orchestra completes the evening with Elgar’s Nimrod from his Enigma Variations.

Richard Green is our choir master and conductor for the evening.

The concert takes place on Saturday (15th November) at 7.30pm and tickets priced £12 for adults (£10 OAPs, students over 14 and unemployed, £2 accompanied under-14s) are available on the door.
