Gainsborough: Blackpool Tower Ballroom organist Phil Kelsall to play concert in the town

Phil is the biggest name on the organ scene today, and arguably the number one organist in the world.

His usual place of performance is the world famous Tower Ballroom at Blackpool.

“In his position, he can pick and chose just when and where he wants to perform,” said Peter Naulls, the Gainsborough Society secretary.

“But, such is the esteem in which he holds us, he readily describes Gainsborough as one of his favourites.”

“He is so much in demand that for next year, we have to move into April to have him due to his American tour, and we will be his first UK concert upon his return.”

Phil is known as Mr Blackpool due to his 30 or so years playing at the famous Tower Ballroom.

And as such he was awarded an MBE in the recent Queen’s Honours List.

He took over at Blackpool Tower from the late Reginald Dixon, who put Blackpool and the organ-playing scene very much on the map with his bright and breezy popular music that still thrills holidaymakers today.

This weekend’s concert will be Phil’s only appearance in the area and a full house is expected.

It takes place on Sunday (15th March) at 2.30pm at the Weston Rooms on Hickman Street in Gainsborough.
