Fairytale endings at Disney show

EVERYONE loves a fairytale.

So the Disney on Ice production ‘Princesses and Heroes’ thrilled a packed Sheffield Arena at the start of the month.

Highly skilled skaters played out scenes from a host of Disney classics and crowd pleasers, with happy ending after happy ending receiving rapturous applause.

Although children never get bored of seeing princesses and their heroic and noble male counterparts ride (or skate) off into the sunset having conquered the bad guy (or wicked witch), it was the skill and agility of the actors on their blades that kept the adults in the audience entertained.

And a couple of the stunts would have impressed even the harshest of critics and cynics.

One in particular saw a ‘pirate’ catapulted off a see-saw, through the air, onto a chair hoisted aloft on a pole by another pirate. It was breathtaking and looked incredibly dangerous.

Aladdin, Cinderella, the Little Mermaid, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast all had an airing, with bonus appearances from Tinkerbell and Mickey and Minnie.

The highlight was a ‘dragon’ - brought to life by several skaters, which breathed fire on the ice creating a magnificent pyrotechnical display.

The sound quality wasn’t great, meaning much of what was said by the likes of Pluto and the world’s most famous mouse was wasted entirely.

But it’s very much a visual treat, and in terms of a spectacle it didn’t disappoint.
