Chris Ramsey Feeling Lucky at The Regal

In January 2008 in one of his first ever stand-up performances, future Edinburgh Festival award nominee Chris Ramsey appeared as part of the monthly show Final Friday Comedy Club at Worksop Regal.

“He was one of the very few acts I’ve ever booked sight unseen,” said resident compere and gig organiser Anthony J Brown.

“He phoned me up and seemed so infectiously enthusiastic and charming that I felt compelled to take a punt on him. I’m very glad that I did.”

“He was supposed to appear for 10 minutes but he ended up doing 20. Not due to any flagrant lack of punctuality on his part, he couldn’t help it, the audience were laughing too much, making his intended set last twice as long. I should have signed him up for life there and then.”

Just over four years later he returns to the Worksop venue to preview material from his forthcoming much-anticipated Edinburgh Festival show Feeling Lucky, having established himself as one of the most sought after new comedic talents in Britain.

Last year he was nominated for the Fosters Comedy Award (formerly the Perrier) for Best Show at the Edinburgh Festival which effectively ensures that his 2012 Edinburgh run will be a total sell out and will prompt reams of column inches.

Described by Evening Standard as a ‘brilliantly engaging natural storyteller’ and esteemed comedy website Chortle as ‘possessing funny bones able to make even the mundane hilarious’ he has supported Al Murray on his UK tour as well as his own debut solo tour.

He has a host of television credits to his name including 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Argumental, Celebrity Juice and Russell Howard’s Good News.

He has recently added acting to his CV, playing the lead role in the forthcoming BBC sitcom Hebburn alongside comedy legend Vic Reeves and is in the process of developing his own show for BBC3, a twitter-based programme entitled @ChrisRamsey.

“Chris’s Feeling Lucky show will tour UK theatres in the autumn, so attending the Worksop Regal show will be a great chance to see the work in development, and in far more intimate surroundings,” said Anthony.

Also appearing on the night will be Sheffield born performer Steve Goodall who has been referred to as having ‘stormed the gig with well observed tales of parenting and unfortunate lookalikes delivered with an easy charm’ by the BBC.

Plus Peter Brush, a bone dry personality with a collection of instantly quotable one liners sown liberally throughout his set.

He was a finalist in the Hilarity Bites New Act of the Year competition and has been described as a ‘real standout performer whose slow build up to quirky one-liners had tears streaming down my cheeks’.

Compere Anthony J Brown is a Jongleurs award winner and former BBC New Comedy Award runner up who has been promoting comedy nights in Worksop since 2007. He is described by bbc.co.uk as having ‘more stings in the tail than a scorpion with a migraine’.

The show takes place on Wednesday 4th July at The Regal, Carlton Road.

Doors are 7.30pm and entry is £8, £6 concessions. Advance tickets are available from the venue or on the door on the night of the show.
