Maria Harris, proprietor of Tallbird Records, is poised to welcome hordes of music fans to her shop on Soresby Street, Chesterfield, this Saturday (April 18).

She said: “Record Store Day is a day on which to celebrate independent record shops like Tallbird Records, a day when we will have hundreds of exclusive vinyl releases that are only available to buy from bricks and mortar independent shops like ours.

“Last year we had a queue that started at 5am and reached down Soresby Street and round into the Market Square by the time we opened at 9am. It’s likely that the queue will start earlier and reach longer this year!”

Musicians will be lining up to play at a gig in Chesterfield on Saturday afternoon in support of Record Store Day. Maria said: “Real Time Live have kindly agreed to host the live event as our shop is too small to put on live acts - doors open at 12pm, tickets are free in advance from the shop or £3 on the door.

“There are some really talented performers on the bill, all are local or from the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire/Yorkshire area.”

Neil Beards, vocalist with The Amber Herd who will be performing, said: “We’re really pleased that Tallbird Records are running this show for RSD 2015 as there’s a massive interest in live music in the town and Real Time Live is an amazing venue. We’re really grateful to Tallbird for doing this and are sure that this will be the first of many shows that will put Chesterfield fully back on the live music map.

“The Amber Herd have just released its debut album, Our Only Eden. We hope that as many people as possible will get to hear our record and we’ll be selling copies on April 18 when we play a very special set including a totally new song written especially for this gig.”

Other acts on the bill include The Velveteens, Sonny Piper, Tom & Maxine, Lorna, Thomas Nash, Ben Miles, Sam Nash, Dino Bedrockers, House of Thieves (to be confirmed) and The Flow.

The live music afternoon will be hosted by Ashley Hutchings, folk legend and founder member of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and Albion Band. Signed copies of his new album, Twangin’ & A-Traddin’ will be on sale on the day.
