Bawtry: Phoenix Players ready to present Steel Magnolias in the town

Bawtry Phoenix Theatre’s production of Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias opens for seven nights at the town theatre next week.

The play is set in a beauty salon in a small Louisiana town and focuses the lives of six women over two years.

Truvy (played by Jane Thomson) runs the salon along with Annelle (Rachael Whiteley).

Their regular customers include M’Lynn (Trudy Panting) and her daughter Shelby (Chloe Whitehouse), Clairee, the rich former mayoress (Liz Atkinson) and Ouiser (Louella Chesterman), who has been in a bad mood for the last 20 years.

Funny and, at times, tear jerkingly touching, the audience listens in on the gossip and banter of these ladies as they deal with marriage, birth and tragic death and ultimately offer support and comfort.

The play opens next Saturday (28th February) and tickets priced £8 (£7 concessions) are available at the Spar on Station Road in Bawtry.
