Auditions for Open Mic UK will be held at Sheffield City Hall on August 30 and at the Britannia Hotel, Nottingham, on September 12.
The keenly-contested event - which is expected to draw 12,000 entries from across the country - is run by Future Music who discovered artists such as Luke Friend and Karen Hardy both of whom have had chart success this year, Jacob Banks, Warner Music’s Birdy, Columbia Record’s Lucy Spraggan, Union J’s Jaymi Hensley and Jahmene Douglas, both of whom are now signed to Sony Music.
Artists who make it through the Open Mic UK auditions will go on to perform in live showcases held in the most prestigious venue in their area in front of an audience and music industry judging panel.
Those selected for the final will have all to play for, not least a £5,000 prize for the winner to be used to develop their career. As well as the winner’s prize package, Open Mic UK also gives away recording time at the country’s best studios, and vocal lessons with some of the UK’s finest singing schools.
The competition’s judging panel is made up of music and entertainment industry specialists, with judges getting more prestigious as the competition progresses. Past judges have included A&R from Warner, Sony and Universal, as well as top music producers, music managers and national radio DJs.
Entry to the auditions costs £5. If you think you’ve got what it takes to be the next major recording star and want to audition for the contest or want to find out more information, log on to: www.openmicuk.co.uk.
