A grand day out for girl band The Kicks

GAINSBOROUGH girl band The Kicks were jumping for joy when they heard they had won a £1,000 prize at a talent show in Skegness.

And their victory was made even sweeter when the big cheque was handed over by none other than Coronation Street actor Jack P Shepherd.

The TV star, who plays David Platt in the ITV1 soap, was on the panel of judges at the Fantasy Factor talent contest.

“When we were announced first place in our age category we all just screamed and hugged each other,” said Kicks singer Lucy Davies, 16, of Alfred Street, Gainsborough.

“Once we had the cheque we all just cried, we couldn’t believe we had actually won.”

Lucy and her band mates Sophie Warriner and Jaide Aston, also 16, formed The Kicks while studying at Trent Valley Academy.

Now they have moved on to college, but their singing aspirations are still high.

On 23rd September they will travel to Sheffield to compete in the Open Mic UK competition, for a chance to play at London’s O2 Arena and win another cash prize.

Judges at Fantasy Factor, held at Fantasy Island family resort in Skegness, were clearly impressed with their talent.

“We performed a cover of Black Heart by Stooshe, and mixed in a bit of Price Tag by Jessie J,” said Lucy.

“The judges scored us out of ten, and Jack gave us a nine. They said we should put harmonies in our songs, so we sang another one with harmonies and they loved it.”

Lucy continued: “We said to each other to that we knew we hadn’t won because the other acts were amazing. We couldn’t believe it when we won.”
