IT WAS nice weather for ducks as resilient Retford folk braved the early downpours to make Charter Day 2009 a success.
The bank holiday event marks the granting of the town charter in 1246, and has become one of the biggest fixtures in the Bassetlaw calendar.
A hard-working committee organises the day, ensuring a timetable of events that will still shine even when the sun isn't out.

The Retford Lions' involvement has come to be best known for the duck race, and member Martin Allan said the celebrations gave a good account of the town.
He added: "We're here to raise money for local causes, and we've provided the duck race for a number of years now."
"It's always a fun day out, even in wet weather. It's something that draws people to Retford and shows them what Retford can do."
