Yesterday will have been the local elections for the council and no doubt the people will have taken their frustrations out on the Government.
What will it mean for us in Bassetlaw? Will anything really change? On some issues, the Government, Conservatives and Lib Dems are in unison.

They all complain about the lack of democracy in places like Zimbabwe, but then we have un-elected EU co
mmissioners setting laws for our parliament to slavishly adopt.

Where’s the democracy in that Labour, Tories and Lib Dems?

Ultimately, this all filters down to strategic plans for our local area: it affects how our schools, hospitals and other services are run and most importantly how they are funded.

Some from the inefficient side of politics wanted Bassetlaw to raise its local component by twice as much as it did.

If Bassetlaw can get by on 2.5 per cent rises then so can the red lot in Nottingham.

But the “Sherriff” is addicted to tax and addicted to the causes of tax isn’t he?!

So next time you see your Council Tax raised by whatever means, think carefully exactly why this has happened.

Mostly you will see it all comes from undemocratic decisions taken “EU know where”.
