While conversing with Bassetlaw Council's head of environment Chris Shaw, I suggested what should be done to the run-down children's paddling pool at the Canch, which is popular and widely used, especially during the school holidays.
My idea is to concrete the pool over and install the pop-up jet sprays I've seen at various places – I'm sure our kids would love that.

This would save pounds and manpower by less maintenance i.e draining, power-washing and refilling, which has to be done for health & safety.

So, as I said to Chris, get on with it, and I don't mind you pinching my suggestion.

Incidentally, I suggest the council also give a thought to clear the Ryton out, making it safe for children to paddle in and catch tiddlers, as we did yonks ago.
