I am writing with regard to yet another serious incident on the A60 road at Carlton-in-Lindrick.
It is only some five months ago that another person was killed in a head on collision on the A60 where the road bends next to the turning for Owday Lane.

On Wednesday 23rd April my daughter was almost killed in an identical head on collision.

S
he was driving toward Carlton from Worksop and as she got close to the turning for Owday Lane she could see that there were several cars stationary on the other side of the road waiting to turn into Owday Lane.

A reckless and irresponsible driver overtook this line of stationary cars on a blind bend and on the wrong side of the road, coming head on towards my daughter’s vehicle.

The only reason a fatal collision was avoided was because of the quick reactions of my daughter, who drove her own car off the road and into the ditch.

The young woman who was the driver of the other car then sped off to avoid being held responsible and with obviously no care or thought for the condition of my daughter or her vehicle.

Fortunately another person who was at the scene pursued this young woman and got her details. There were also a number of other people who were at the scene who given their names as witnesses to this event.

Our deepest thanks go to the gentleman who pursued the reckless driver, otherwise she would have got away free from responsibility for this near fatal collision.

What has shocked me, however, is the lack of urgency of the police when contacted about this incident.

Despite the fact that it was a case of blatant dangerous and irresponsible driving almost resulting in a fatality, the culprit driving away from the scene and there being several witnesses to it all, the police have shown little interest.

Their view seems to be that because no one was injured they don’t want to be involved.

Presumably, as far as the police are concerned, this means the reckless driver can continue overtaking on blind bends at will until she does eventually kill someone!

How is it that the police can allocate time and resource to speed traps aimed at catching individuals exceeding the speed limit by a few miles per hour on clear straight stretches of roads, as regularly happens further along that road, but are not interested in pursuing someone who almost caused a fatality by overtaking on a blind bend?
