RESIDENTS will get the chance to get involved and decide how to spend £1 million at the village’s gala on Monday.

Thurcroft Gala is taking place on the Recreation Fields on New Orchard Lane between 12pm and 4pm on 27th August.

And as part of the gala, there will be a chance to sign up and get involved with Thurcroft Big Local.

The scheme is will see the community come together to decide best how to spend the money and make the area a better place to live.

Steve Ruffle from Rotherham Federation of Tenants and Residents (RotherFed) said: “All Thurcroft residents are encouraged to come along, get involved and be part of Big Local.”

He added: “Local residents are at the heart of Big Local. Big Local aims to involve as many different people from every age group and every part of the village as possible”.

Thurcroft Gala has been brought back to the village thanks to the tireless efforts of local man Ken Brierton.

He has worked with the Thurcroft Miners Institute, with support from Rotherham Council, to create the gala which will feature dozens of attractions including an inflatable slide and football pitch, rides, climbing wall, face painting and refreshments. There will also be tug-of-war, five-a-side football and other activities on the field.

The gala is free to attend, but any profits will be donated to Rotherham Hospice.

Car parking will be available at TP Trading, on the right just past the mini-roundabout.
