Three men have pledged to restore the Regal Theatre in Worksop to its former glory and make it a venue the town can be proud of.

Martin Gilfoyle, Steve Broadbent and Chris Frampton have taken over the lease of the iconic building on Carlton Road.

Under their community interest company, Vital, they plan to transform both the building’s interior and exterior and rebrand it the Regal Centre.

Their plans include renovating the bar area, transforming the main auditorium into a multi-purpose room for shows, weddings and other functions and improving the current recording studio.

The men, who have put some of their own savings into the scheme, plan to phase the development, ploughing any profit made back into the building and its facilities.

The first phase is to render the front of the building, create a new entrance to the bar, including disabled access. Once finished they plan to open the bar and use the profits to fund more of the development.

Martin, who is also manger of the Frog and Nightgown pub, said: “We’ve got to aim high to get its name out there and promote it in order to make it accessible to more of the community.”

“We want to make it a venue that Bassetlaw can be proud of and that attracts the acts that you would travel to Nottingham or Sheffield to see.”

Martin, who used to work for Young Potential, feels a recording studio could attract bigger bands and artists, and also provide unique facilities for birthday parties. They also hope to run a rock school for youngsters during the summer holidays.

Martin added that Young Potential and WEA will continue to use rooms in the building.

The next event is the Final Friday Comedy night on 26th July. Tickets are £5 and doors open at 7pm.
