It’s a well-known saying that life imitates art - but fortunately that’s not the case for a Chesterfield-based worker.

Matt Walker, who is employed by educational suppliers Frank Berry Otter, will play brainless Scarecrow in The Wiz next week.

Matt Walker plays the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz at Montgomery Theatre, Sheffield, from June 15 to 18.

Michael Jackson played the Scarecrow in the film version of The Wiz and Matt’s mother shared a stage with the superstar as a backing singer many years ago.

Matt said: “The role is iconic in so many ways - as are all the other famous characters.”

His mum, dad and fiancee will also tread the boards in the production by Hallam and Handsworth Theatre Company at the Montgomery Theatre, Sheffield.

The Wiz is an up-tempo, all-singing and dancing version of the story which is based on The Wizard of Oz and follows Dorothy and her chums along the yellow brick road to the Emerald City.

Catch the show from June 15 to 18. For tickets, contact 07586 293546 or email hhtctickets@live.co.uk.
