Anything Goes for the Dinnington Operatics

Dinnington Operatic Society go on stage with this years production Anything Goes on Monday 10th October.

Anything Goes is a good old fashioned farce set on a 1930s ocean liner and is a boy meets girl, loses girl, gets girl back story.

Along the way he meets a missionary, two Chinese converts, public enemy number 13, a sexy ex-evangelist and the girl’s fiancé - and it all ends happily ever after.

It’s like Titanic, but funny, and the ship doesn’t sink.

Add to this hilarious script, written by the one and only P.G.Wodehouse, the songs of one Cole Porter including the title number Anything Goes and you are in for a stunner of a show.

In fact, all of Cole porter’s best songs are here, like You’re The Top, Blow Gabriel Blow and Friendship.

The society chairman, Dave Jones, said: “This is the second time I have been involved with this show, the last was about 15 years ago.”

“It really gives you a buzz and brings back many happy memories the second time around.”

Director Gail Cobb, a local doctor during the day, said: “It is extremely excited that Anything Goes is my directing debut.”

“What makes it special is that this was also my very first show with DOS 15 years ago when I played one of the Angels.”

“I have fond memories of this time because I met new friends - many of who are still active members.”

Gail added: “Anything Goes also has special memories as I distinctly recall seeing Elaine Paige as Reno Sweeny in the West End in December 1989.”

“I can date it pretty well as I remember being eight months pregnant at the time and that baby is now 21.”

Rehearsals have been going well for the group. And the cast have even been doing some impromptu ‘flash mob’ performances.

You might have caught a glimpse of them at Woodlands Care Home, Rotherham Show and the Monks Bridge Farm.

Gail said: “We’re really grateful to Ray at the Monks Bridge for allowing us to invade his pub.”

“It’s the first time we’ve done anything like this and we’re really excited, flash mobs seem to be popping up everywhere so we thought we’d try and reach some people who might not have heard about our show.”

Anything Goes should be another top quality performance by the group known locally as the Dossers.

The cast includes Sally Hartley as Reno, Phill Probert as Billy, Jonathan Cobb as Moonface Martin, Olivia Egan as Hope Harcourt, John Green as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh and Louise Selden as Urma.

Tickets are still available for performances earlier in the week.

The show runs from Monday 10th to Saturday 15th October at 7.15pm each evening, including a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.

Tickets are available from the box office on 01909 569340 or on the door.

Ticket are priced £9 for adults, £7.50 for children and concessions.
