National Theatre Live returns to Trinity Arts Centre in Gainsborough this month with Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

A stellar cast including Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Janet McTeer (The White Queen) and Dominic West (The Wire) will present this tale of sexual games, malice and wits.

In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos’ novel of sex, intrigue and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France scandalised the world.

Two hundred years later, Christopher Hampton’s adaptation swept the board, winning the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play.

Josie Rourke’s revival now marks the play’s 30-year anniversary.

Former lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont now compete in games of seduction and revenge.

Merteuil incites Valmont to corrupt the innocent Cecile de Volanges before her wedding night.

But Valmont has targeted the peerlessly virtuous and beautiful Madame de Tourvel.

While these merciless aristocrats toy with others’ hearts and reputations, their own may prove more fragile than they supposed.

The story was also turned into the hit movie Dangerous Liaisons starring Glenn Close, John Malkovic and Uma Thurman.

The live streaming at Gainsborough is on January 28 at 7pm.

Tickets are £12 and £10 on 01427 676655 or www.trinityarts.co.uk
