South Yorkshire: Calling all budding artists

Artists from across South Yorkshire are being invited to show their masterpieces to the world as entries for the seventh annual Open Art Exhibition are now being accepted.

The celebration of local talent starts on Monday 14th October and will be held in Rotherham’s Gallery @ Riverside.

The showcase is open to both professional and amateur artists who live in and around South Yorkshire and are aged 17 or over.

The exhibition concludes on Saturday 30th November.

Prizes will be awarded for best exhibits in the show, with a first prize of £200, second prize of £100 and the People’s prize of £50, the show is set to draw in some excellent quality work. Artists can enter up to two works, which must be originals and produced in the last three years.

Most art and craft, including 2D oils, acrylics, watercolours, gouaches, drawings, pastels, prints, collage, photography and digital art and 3D pieces, including sculpture are welcome.

Coun Amy Rushforth, cabinet member for culture and tourism, said: “Over the years this amazing exhibition has recognised the fantastic talent and achievements of local artists and has helped to showcase their work to the widest possible audience.”

“We’re expecting hundreds of works of art, but, unfortunately, we have limited space, so we can’t accept large sculptures, installations or performances and will only be able to display a limited number of large 2D and 3D works.”

Entry forms should be submitted by Friday 6th September. Artists who register their interest will be informed of when to bring their artwork to the gallery.There is a non refundable fee of £5 per artwork.
