Consider yourself... invited to the first ever Safe@Last production of the much loved musical Oliver!
The tale of an orphan boy who dared to ask for more was a natural choice for the Dinnington-based children’s charity.
Safe@Last works with children and young people at risk through running away or being thrown out of home.
On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th November, supporters of the charity will take to the Lyric Theatre in Dinnington to perform the classic tale.
Oliver runs away from an orphanage to London where he meets Fagin and his gang of child pickpockets. Along the way he meets colourful characters like the Artful Dodger, Nancy and Bill Skyes.
Rehearsals are well under way as the cast look towards their big weekend. Some have never performed before, while others have been on stage.
Joel Fletcher stars as Oliver in his debut in a lead role and Nancy is played by Jessica Hobson who was a contestant on last year’s BBC 1 show The Voice UK.
“This story of a little boy in Victorian times who ran away from an abusive situation has so many parallels with young people who are at risk through running away in our modern world.,” said Hilary Massarella, Safe@Last founder.
“Oliver’s vulnerability to dodgy characters within hours of being alone on the streets, the speed at which he was enticed into a life of crime, the domestic violence he witnessed between Nancy and Bill are all themes our project workers hear about daily.”
You can see Oliver! at the Lyric Theatre on Friday 8th November at 7.30pm and Saturday at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
Tickets are £10 full or £6 for under-11s and over-65s. Book on 01909 566977 or at www.weekendatlast.co.uk
