A young rugby player from Worksop has made his debut for the Championship Nottingham Rugby Academy.

Michael Hawksworth, 18, played the full 80 minutes at hooker against the RAF in a closely-fought match his side narrowly lost 27-22.

Michael, who plays his club rugby for Long Eaton RUFC, was called up to play following a successful spell in the county championships this Autumn having been selected for the NLD (Notts, Lincs, Derbyshire) U18s squad, playing in all four games during the campaign.

He has also been selected by the England Midlands selectors to attend the first development camp on Sunday (6th) where he could be be selected to represent them in the spring where selectors and players will be looking for England u18 call ups.

Michael lives in Worksop, attended the Outdoor Academy Portland and works as an apprentice for Anpario plc, based at Manton Wood where he is studying mechanical engineering.
