Local road racing star Andy Bishop has again helped the Andy Moore Autocentres Racing Team colelct another fine points haul from their latrst event, the Blyton Closed Circuit Race Series.

Bishop, from Worksop, was part of the four-strong team, along with Adam Turner, Jono Dexter and Damien Shakespeare who rode in the Saturday evening event at the series.

Thunderstorms and torrential rain threatened to challenge those taking part, but the deluge ceased with minutes to spare before the race start, sparing the competitors from a soaking.

The Blyton circuit produced an exciting race full of attacks and counter-attacks and Dexter found himself in the break midway through the race, and although this group tried hard to force the advantage, the peloton brought back the attack before the end.

It came down to a ferocious final sprint to settle the excitement, and a co-ordinated push on the last bend brought three top-10 placings for the team with Bishop, Dexter, and Shakespeare all scoring points.

The result completed a good event for the team after Turner proved his consistency with a podium finish in the previous day’s race.

The dry, almost windless conditions meant the race was up to a quick pace straight from the flag, and a competitive field ensured that the hour-long event was packed with numerous attacks.

Turner maintained position throughout and attacked hard on the final straight.

“Adam hit the sweet spot with yet another third place,” said team manager Andy Moore.

“If he carries on like this, he’ll soon own that podium.”

The team are now getting ready for the Sheffield Grand Prix where they will face the notoriously challenging Sheffield City Centre event, which will feature the UK’s leading Premier Calendar teams, including a selection of domestic and Olympic champions from the world of cycling.
